Adult Learner’s Permit Information

Before getting behind the wheel with Airway with a qualified driver at home, adults must obtain a Connecticut Adult Learner’s Permit. The permit is obtained by making an appointment and testing at a DMV branch office. To find out how to make an appointment, click here. The test consists of 25 multiple choice questions. Adults must get 20 questions correct (80%) in order to pass the test.

  • Testing Fee: $40
  • Processing Fee: $19

The learner’s permit must be held for a minimum of 90 days. Testing eligibility is on the 91st day.

The DMV offers a variety of resources for adults to use to study for the permit test, including the DMV manual and the DMV app for iPhone and Android devices. Also, the permit test is offered in several languages. Please check with the DMV to see if your preferred language is offered.
